Olga Bell

Recently I had the good fortune to photograph the lovely and talented Olga Bell.  She is a singer/musician I think you are going to hear a lot about soon.

On A Soif!

I heard this song in the car today with Emilie, who had a cassette from her Grandfather. She is Belgian and this song by Grand Jojo is very Belgian, je pense. So great! The seventies ruled everywhere.

Song of the day....Save It For Later

It's been a long while since I posted a song. This is a real good one...oldie but great. Save It For Later by The English Beat. Oh my god it is February! Does this mean the snow is almost over?

Angela

The Angela, or Angela, or Mrs Dezen. She's a peach any way you say it. I think she looks like a 40s movie star.

Damnwell

I've known Alex Dezen (The Damnwells) for a really long time. We met in the meadow in Central Park in high school. I was the best man at his wedding to Angela (they called it the breast-man). I have always been a big fan of his music in the many incarnations it has taken over the years, but this is different. Some of the songs are the same, but he shows them from a different place, a place of quiet confidence and strength. It was a beautiful set the other night at Rockwood and although I am slightly biased, I feel like the music was reverberating out past the doors of the club, into the unconscious, bigger than just the person singing.

Holy Fuck - Red Lights

I don't know this band that well, but I have watched this several times today. This is like what my dreams are like, or would be, on the best night ever.

listen to this

It dawned on me today I should be working on album covers, because I listen to a whole lot more music than I read books, unfortunately. If only the music here existed, or the words in the books. Music is so much more an instant way to communicate now than it ever has been. No need to pay engineers and rent studio time; I could record a whole album of covers right here in my apartment. Maybe I am, you never know.click on the image to see it larger.

Natural History

Yesterday was Baptiste's birthday. We went to the Museum of Natural History and saw the Journey to the Stars show in the planetarium, which I highly recommend. I went to my first dance in 6th grade at the museum, in the hall of African mammals, with the gigantic elephants in the middle of the room. Yesterday I managed to avoid the thing that scares all city kids to their core - the squid and whale fighting deep under the water in the hall of ocean life. Still gives me the shivers.
Also this weekend we saw the first of many Teen shows to come and I was blown away! Definitely check them out soon.

more pics from TEEN shoot last June

I am still so into these pictures I took for Kristina's new project, TEEN. She is in Here We Go Magic, on keyboards and vocals and now has this amazing new project on her own with some talented friends, TEEN. More to come on them in the very near future, I am sure. She asked all her favorite girls to come hang out in Greenpoint and be in these pictures. So fun.

new music: Here We Go Magic

last night we went to go see my friends Here We Go Magic play their record release show at The Music Hall of Williamsburg. War On Drugs opened for them. It was so much fun and I haven't been to that space since it was called North 6th, which tells you I spend a lot of time in the country and making sorbet at home. Check out their album, it's ridiculous.
