I love the errors even still
Agh cursed light leaks! I apologize, my sweet horse friend Brancita. Large format camera + blazing sun + moving horse + 4 planes = a few mistakes

Walk with me
A few people have asked me what it looks like here. It is beautiful. I am out in the country, in the Alentejo. But the countryside near Estremoz and Evoramonte is especially magical. Last night there was a thunderstorm on a full moon and the lights went out. The other day I went on a walk...
stevia grows everywhere so the air is sweet
a wild beast spotted
everywhere the earth pushes forward to meet me
this is a painfully shy Gypsy horse being brought back to health by a local shepard. He bought her from some gypsies not long ago for 100 euros and she was skeletal but is now eating field after field of tall grass.
this is the closest so far

Bom dia!
Today I woke up in the Alentejo in central Portugal. Curious horses, wonderful cheese and wine and inspiring mounds of marble. More on that later. In the distance here you can see the castle of Evoramonte, founded in 1160, with one of the millions of plane trails I saw today. It took me two planes, one taxi, one bus and another car ride to get here.
Here is my new friend Chico. He is a huge flirt.
This is a statue in honor of Queen Isabel, or Elizabeth of Aragon (in English), in Estremoz.

Warhorse
I saw an amazing play last week at Lincoln Center called Warhorse. It was a production originally from the UK about World War One and the massive numbers of humans and animals killed in that conflict. It remains the largest conflict in human history, and hopefully will be able to keep that title forever. I was blown away, especially because for some reason, the number of horses killed has occurred to me before. Here is a drawing I did in August 2009...it is one breed of horse from France, I don't remember which one, but all told over 8 million horses died during WW1. Putting war through the eyes of an animal makes it so much more brutal, as they don't know why they are running into battle, not that we do really either.
Also it occurred to me, how many times have I said the word "war" in my life? Likely millions, as it is part of my name. War, war, war.
